Sam Elizabeth Baroni |
GeneralDr. Sam E. Baroni is an Assistant Professor of Conflict Resolution and International Studies. Dr. Baroni holds a B.A in International Relations from Florida International University, an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Central Florida and a Ph.D. in Comparative Studies from Florida Atlantic University. Dr. Baroni also attended school in Saudi Arabia for a decade where she studied Islam, Middle East and African history, culture, social organization, and Arabic. She spent several years in Kazakhstan following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, where she participated in activities of the transitional government and served as a liaison between the United States and Kazakhstan in a variety of capacities. Dr. Baroni has participated in international conflict resolution throughout Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. She has served as advisor to the U.S. Departments of Defense, Commerce, Treasury, State, Justice and Homeland Security. Her educational background and work experience are in the areas of political science, economics, sociology, and anthropology. She advocates a multidisciplinary approach toward conflict analysis and resolution at local, national and international levels. Dr. Baroni’s current teaching and research interests include conflict resolution within and among nations; international negotiation, conflict resolution in Islam, nuclear disarmament; peace and development issues, the citizen and the state, nationalism, tribalism, identity, risk analysis, security, the Middle East and North Africa, Central Asia, and terrorism. Dr. Baroni advocates a strong sense of community. Currently, she serves as a volunteer for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Team Hope and is a member of the advisory round table for the Department of Justice Amber Alert Program.
